This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

My understanding is, there's various types of editing and editers. However, I know little more than that.

Could someone enlighten me? thanks.

I'm not quite sure what you mean. I do a bit of freelance editing and as far as I've ever been aware it's mostly delineated by field. For example, I'm a "legal editor" because due to various reasons I know a lot about legal English.

There are editors that correct errors in grammar and spelling and there are also editors that gatekeep a property and provide final changes to ensure a coherent house voice. Some publishers have even more categories in between spelling and voice -- a fact checker, for example.

The Wikipedia entry for editors is less specific than I thought it would be. Perhaps it's as vague in real life as it is in my head.

Isn't the dream editor the guy who would spot an error in a rule description before it makes it to the errata ?
