This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Roleplaying games don't need to be saved from the barbarians, roleplaying games need to be saved from the true believers.

So ... like ... playing a barbarian is okay, but I should stay away from paladins?

What about clerics?  Because I don't know how well the party's going to fare if we cut back that far on classes with easy access to healing.

I believe MythusMage was saying there are too many die-hard fanboys and and grognards who are involved with Role Playing.

He might be right, he might be wrong.

MythusMage, is that what you meant ?

Now that I'm sober and awake, I get it.  I think you're right E.W.C., but what's Mythus' official answer?

 Good Game setting choice !
My GURPS:TRAVELLER group just switched to playing on weekends. We had been doing our game nights on Thursdays (every other week) then switched to Tuesdays.

hhmm, Mythus must not be browsing yet.

Koltar, you're on the right track. But now I am browsing, so I can now answer your question.

Koltar, you're on the right track. The only way to make RPGs more interesting for prospective players is by making RPGs more interesting for prospective players.

To put it another way. Maybe people find RPGs boring because RPGs are boring.

People find RPGs boring?  Really?

If they meet a boring group of players - thats entirely possible.

I have seen a few customers at the game store  decide try an RPG  based on description alone of what this type of gaming is like.

Oh... if you don't know already - I'm an Assistant Manager at a Game store.

Had a woman at the store yesterday who was looking over our wall of miniatures. At first I thought she was looking for stuff for a husband or boyfriend . NOPE.
Turns out she is the Dungeonmaster for her D&D group - and her players have been talking about needing some kind of figures to use in their game sessions.  She's never been a player - went straight to being the DM.
When I asked her how that happened , she said :
"Because I'm such a Bitch!"
Which made me laugh.... she went on to say that she likes running the story and adventures.
She did not fit the image of one of these "true Believers" or grognards.
She was actually fairly attractive, brunette, mid 30s to early 40s ...and wasn't wearing glasses. You could describe her as charismatic  and friendly.

IF the hobby were reprsented more often by people like her - it might lose a bit of its "geeky"  aura.

Fortunate is the man who's never run across an RPG written to be dull.

Maybe people find books boring because books are boring.

Yeah, this seems like a perfectly reasonable explanation...
